I have been very unoccupied at work, so I have been more than ever updated with the Olympics news.. and related news... and thoughts. lol
A few things that brought about quite a bit of controversies ever since the opening of the Olympics in Beijing.
firstly, it is the singing girl who was actually lipsyncing. The authority apparently tried to hide the fact originally, and after gotten found out, they had to admit to using 2 different girls, one for the face and one for the voice. For the perfect combination. Much as I am biased towards China, i have to say that they should not have tried to cover this whole thing up. Also, the reason this being all-inclusive, involving as many people as possible.. is a bad one. I would rather that the authority apologise for the disillusionment caused to the general public.. Already the image of China is bad enough in face of all the counterfeits, we should not try to make it worse with more fake news and illusions.
That being said, the media is just so keen on exploiting this thing to prove that the chinese are fakes. I wonder if there was such big sensationalisation when the celebrities like britney and pavarotti lipsynced during their famous performances.. Perhaps the originals are sung by them originally anyway, so it is probably more pardonable since it is not a total bluff. Then again, we need to reaccess where do we draw the line between truths and fakes? How fake can a fake go to be considered truth? and vice versa? Since absolute truth and thus fakes are inaccessible to us, it is then quite pointless to keep pointing out things at such a micro scale to prove the massive scale to generalise the entire china.
Then, there is the whole issue on the Chinese athlete's age. ie the gymnasts. 16 yr olds being actually 14 or sth..He Kexin is the central figure of this dispute. apparently a few other sources previously proved enough that she is actually around 13+ or 14. instead of 16 as legally required. this again.. reminds me of the few classmates in pri sch who faked their yr of birth.. so they are older than what is recorded on passports.. in order to get into pri sch n not be too old or sth for it.. It happens. No excuse for that. I know that as a Chinese I would really want China to win, but I think maybe if we'd won it or lost it square and fair, it would be better. It's just that, again, it is the same issue on what is fairness. In swimming, if u train in the best outfit, the least water resistant and body hugging outfit, thus developping ur muscle differently n thus sort of modified ur body to a fish like structure (probably u can even haf plastic surgery to put in some gills). does it make it fair or is it plaeing cheat? If China were to do that, wel it would be cheating. If US were to do it.. hmm.. maybe it would be considered uhh.. technologically advance. Always it seems that.. fairness is a subjective term. doing things clearly against the written regulation would be unfair, as defined loosely by the public. But if u do things that is not written in the regulation, then it would not be. So does this apply for steroids too? Before there is a good enough technology to test out the most formidable and disguisable steroid, that steroid would be sanctioned by the authority since it was not banned? So does fairness boil down to the whole concept of you-are-not-guilty-until-you-get-caught?
if that is the general agreement. then well, China has been fair since it's not been caught yet. LOL.
Also, the argument over the gold awarding to He Kexin over Liukin despite both getting the same score. The official report was that Kexin made less mistake than Liukin. Well, of course pple always like to argue over that too. they are arguing that one should not give on the basis of technical mistakes as this is a subjective game.. which is a strange argument. Subjective would be in the style and not the technical aspect isnt it?
And as for the girl who fell on her knees and stil gotten bronze. I was there wtaching the event.. and I was surprised she got such a high mark for her Vault 2 too. but zool explained that it depends on the difficultz level of ur routine. if it was a harder one.. u get some basic points for executing that. so that could have explained it. plus, she scored pretty well for the first execution. so thats why she got bronze.
I think i sound like i am an olympic geek!! haha.. This is what happens when u r on an internship.
Also, there has been some hoohahs over China's selection of their Olympic representatives. U see, China's olympic selection has always been rather.. complicated. it is rather political rather.. the personal image of the athletes, as well as their strategic standing in the competition in view of the other countries. it was not a gd thing if u were to talk about the achievement n chance of individual athletes in the competition.. but it is probable understandable given that it is a competitoin that is closely associated with national glory. Criticising the Chinese for selecting a certain athlete with better or healthier public image over another, is hypocritical for people who supported the resignation of Bill Clinton. We all know what happened. Public image vs private life, it is rather (the key word of the day) UNFAIR to have double standards. when it comes to criticisms.. tis always.. this country can do this n tt.. BUT china cant BECAUSE.. haha.. it is such a cliche expression and arguement that u can probable bring like 10 articles n do it as a class article to fill in the blanks... lol
Olympics has been a political thing made by the you-know-whos this time round. or rather, all the while. So this is just.. playing the game as it has been played. China is just playing to the world's tune.

I think I'm a white rose
U can only be born into being a white rose,
Not stained into one.
I like my thorns
A rose by that of any other name should smell just as sweet
Ticks of her life
I like Snow
I like White
I like U
