Been reading a few articles on a Chinese website on their thoughts and feelings on certain issues at hand..
I'm glad about something, and sad about others.
http://www.chinaaffairs.org/gb/detail.asp?id=86350 This article made me realise just how ridiculous the opening ceremony is.. No wonder even my family and myself found the ceremony boring. It has no soul. Perhaps the German telecasts were right about it. It was a blatant show off of what we THINK makes our civilisation so great. It is a list of the things that we think others should know about us.
Our VERY distant ancient history, our VERY inadequate recent civilisation development, and our VERY worrying future existence.
We are not a great country simply cos we invented paper, gunpowder or anything so concrete and so superficial. Plus, it is not the inventoin of the entire race. It is the invention of individuals. The article was right. The Americans didn't claim credit for the inventions that are credited to Edison, nor do the Jewish community claim credit for Einstein's theory of relativity. But I am afraid, that the communist party has destroyed so much of the past, so much traditions of the past, that it makes it impossible to have a performance on cultural development of the civilisation and with soul. There is probably not many people working on this opening ceremony who is learned enough, and passionate enough about the entire chinese civilisation, to add the X factor to it.
This whole thing looks like a joke sometimes, it is like the reality of the movie 'Da Waner' that mocks movie producers who put in every bit of Advertising into any element they can think of. To the point of it becoming ridiculous. even ludicrous.
How ironic, that the country that has its people and arts and everything so geared towards money and capitalism, is the one that names itself after the other extreme of capitalism.
